Review-Keep your friends close but your roommates closer is the life lesson that Roommate Wanted tries to teach us. The start of the film sort of gives us a clue as to what we will expect towards the end as we open the film with the two women fighting. As the scene dies and this film opens we meet Janie. Janie is a do-gooder kind of lady; she is a student who wants a better life than she has. Enter Dee, you just know these two are truly polar opposites and in any other planet would never exist in the same roof or the same zip code. Dee has it all it seems except for the rich husband that seems to be eluding her. Alexa Vega who has been trying to shed her Spy Kids persona in the last few years really tries hard in this film but the director and writer do her no favors. The script she is working with is just flat and so uneventful. This film just seems like an exercise in patience more than a competent film. I was expecting Single White Female or with the box cover a horror film, but this film really played it so safe and uneven that I am not sure what kind of film it set out to be. As the film passes the hour mark the real cracks in this boat start to show and the material just really seems to stall. I am thinking that this film had to be planned to be an improvisation or ad-libbed, but it just looks like all involved are not really sure what to make of it. I felt at first the film tried to be a comedy, but it was not that funny. Now that being said, it had a few smirk moments where I hated myself after for thinking it was funny. Then I felt suspense drama, but the film is so flimsy and paper thin that the drama element just seems like a lost cause or maybe a cry for help by the director. In the end, the film has its moments the fight scene between the two roommates is a safe way to open the film then to throw us this confused and uneven film was such a disgrace to all involved. This film on paper with who is involved should have been fun or played up to her image she is trying to give audiences. Instead this film just felt like it was dead on arrival and all involved just went thru the motions to the pay window.
