For starters, this is thankfully not another cliche Mean Girls spoof (with the absence of Linsday Lohan and Tina Fey). Instead, Gay Mean Girls is a diverse and truly fresh take on modern LGBT teen life in a Tumblr era. Directed and written by Heyishi Zhang, Gay Mean Girls follows the narrative of Lucy Kim, a queer girl of color, who wants to develop a gay prom at her high school, so she can primarily impress her best friend. Director Heyishi Zhang hopes to develop Gay Mean Girls into a full web series and with the current success of the short film so far, we can see that manifesting very soon.
