BloodSprayer
October Moon was Tempe Video’s best selling DVD in 2006 so it’s only fitting that they would distribute the sequel November Son, which was released earlier this year. Director Jason Paul Collum is obviously a huge fan of scream queens (his documentary Something To Scream About is fantastic), and with a cast including Judith O’ Dea, Brinke Stevens, and Debbie Rochon November Son there once again has no shortage of the lovely ladies of horror.
I know, it doesn’t sound like a gore drenched typical night at the bloodsprayer, and it’s not. What November Son is is a story driven psychological
thriller, and a good one at that. All of the main characters have ample time to make you care about them, and that makes the payoff at the end deliver a bigger punch. I couldn’t help but care what was going to happen to everyone as we get to the finale. The movie has a good sense of humor and does throw in a couple good creepy dream sequences. Judith O’ Dea was phenominal, I cannot praise her enough!
On the downside, as good as the story was it did start to drag after awhile. I don’t want to bash the pacing of the movie, because most of the dialog heavy moments were necessary to give the chacters depth, but a little more action would’ve been nice. Also the movie had a couple of head scratching moments. I still cannot figure out why Nancy would have anything to do with George based on the characters personalities and beliefs.
While not exactly the movie for most horrorhounds, for fans of psychothrillers or the first movie, November Son is a fun movie. I’m not going to say that you have to watch the first movie, but I think it would’ve helped. I have already placed my order for the first October Moon so I can sit down and fill in some of the blanks that I still have.
Critically praised and one of the first gay-themed thrillers, OCTOBER MOON was released theatrically on September 25, 2005 and hit DVD on Valentine’s Day 2006, the film was an immediate success. With that success in hand, director Jason Paul Collum brings us the sequel, OCTOBER MOON 2: NOVEMBER SON.
Referred to as “Oddly gothic…creepy fun…” (Instinct) and “A cut above most independent horror films…” (Film Monthly) OCTOBER MOON 2: NOVEMBER SON holds the distinct novelty of being the first gay-horror film sequel! This DVD edition contains an all-new 4 page full-color insert by writer, director producer Jason Paul Collum (Something To Scream About). The entire original cast returns (even the dead ones) and are joined by Scream Queen supreme Debbie Rochon (Witchouse 3: Demon Fire), soap star Robyn Griggs (One Life To Live) and recording artist Sacha Sacket (Dante’s Cove), making his screen debut.
The title was an immediate success and became Tempe’s “Best Selling” title of 2006, 2008 & 2009. The title will be going on Moratorium later this year. It stars numerous cult actors including Judith O’Dea (Night of theLiving Dead ), Brinke Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre), Tina Ona Paukstelis (Aswang: The Unearthing), Jeff Dylan Graham (Baby Jane?), and Darcey Vanderhoef (Bad Movie Police).
Picking up two years after the original film , the surviving women have become lost in a world of deep depression and guilt for their roles in Elliot’s breakdown. They seek answers to escape this dark world and think they find it in the arms of two handsome but mysterious men. Soon, however, peace turns into terror and paranoia as everyone is pulled into a world of revenge, outrage and obsession.
OCTOBER MOON 2 will be available for V.O.D. and purchase at Amazon and other online sources as of February 15th.
