Soon afterward, however, Sarah receives a series of disturbing threats from an unknown stalker. Her suspicions immediately fall on Tony, as she realizes how little she knows about her new lover. Her fear throws a shadow over their relationship, and her doubts increase as she learns more about Tony's dangerous past. Director Peter J. Hall maintains a fast pace and attempts to keep audiences guessing, introducing additional suspects from an imprisoned serial killer (Harry Dean Stanton) to the next-door neighbor (Dennis Miller). The characters rarely transcend standard thriller types, and the uneven screenplay does not have a satisfying ending, but the chemistry between DeMornay and Banderas may keep their fans interested along the way.

This reworking of the seminal 1949 film noir of the same name has gained a cult following but unfortunately eliminates the focus on compulsion and sexuality of the original and instead becomes an action-romance, with some good performances but little substance. Drew Barrymore plays an essentially nice young woman who has unfortunately never had a chance to be anything but a bad girl. She was raised in an isolated, redneck desert town in a trashy trailer park. Abused and unloved from an early age, the young woman has been derisively called the town "sperm bank" by her provincial peers. Life is bleak and hopeless for young Anita until she begins writing Howard, a prison inmate who has found God and sincerely wants to reform. While awaiting his parole, Anita learns to shoot because she knows Howard likes shooting. She soon proves to be an exceptional shot and finds she likes shooting guns much better than she does having sex (which is a good thing because Howard turns out to be impotent). They team up after his release, but despite his good intentions he is soon drawn back to a life of crime through the actions of Anita. Now the two lost souls must flee for their lives and continue with the violence. The film was first aired on the Showtime cable network and was later released theatrically.

While Walt Disney's 1961 filmization of Victor Herbert's Babes in Toyland pales in comparison to the 1934 movie version starring Laurel & Hardy, the Disney film is an unqualified classic when compared to the ill-starred 1986 TV version. Adapted for television by playwright Paul Zindel, the 1986 film stars Drew Barrymore as Lisa Piper, a contemporary girl whisked off Wizard of Oz fashion to Toyland. Here her friends and family from the "real" world are reincarnated as villainous Barnaby (Richard Mulligan), Old Mother Hubbard (Eileen Brennan), Jack-Be-Nimble (Keanu Reeves) et. al. Only "March of the Toys" and "Toyland" have been retained from the original Victor Herbert score; the rest of the songs were specially written for this adaptation by Leslie Bricusse-and, suffice to say, these were hardly classics. Irreparably damaging this version was its 180-minute length-over twice as long as the Laurel & Hardy version, and not even half as good. Filmed in Munich, Babes in Toyland was first telecast December 19, 1986.
