Get Real is a good English film of coming out. As in Beautiful Thing.
YouTube review
When homosexuality was still an absolute taboo in England, sensitive rural town model student Steven Carter hides his gay feelings, except to his neighbor Linda. Suddenly his desperate search for partners in male public lavatories leads to a blind date with golden boy John Dixon, bound for an Oxbridge career. Steven finds the courage to approach John by volunteering for the school paper as sports photographer. A wonderful affair follows, but John is terrified of losing his social status. As the boys' love blossoms, so grows despair about secrecy or outing consequences.

What’s it about?
Get Real is based on the 1992 play ‘What’s Wrong With Angry?’ by Patrick Wilde. It tells the story of the troubled teenager, Steven Carter who is in the closet to everyone except his best friend Linda. Out of a want to find a partner for himself, he frequents the male public lavatory. As luck would have it, he meets one of his fellow students, John Dixon, although he denies that he’s gay. Soon a secret but passionate relationship ensues.
Best aspect of the film:
The end, which is great for numerous reasons (Don’t worry I’m not going to spoil it for you.) I just love the way that Steven takes responsibility for his life and moves on. It’s been stuck in my head for a long time.
Best performance:
Hands down, Ben Silverstone who plays Steven Carter. There’s just something incredibly real and loveable about his character. He makes the film great.
What to expect:
A relatable film with some great British humour. It’s definitely one to watch
