Wilbur Whateley pops over to the Arkham Miskatonic University to borrow the legendary Necronomicon and Sandra Dee. But little does anyone know, Whateley isn't quite human...

MOVIE INFO

Its minor box-office concessions notwithstanding (the leading character is changed from male to female, for example), The Dunwich Horror is perhaps the best filmization of an H. P. Lovecraft tale. Young college student Nancy Walker (Sandra Dee) falls under the influence of Wilbur Whateley (Dean Stockwell) and his devil-worshipping clan. Dr. Henry Armitage (Ed Begley Sr.), a professor of the occult, tries to break the spell Whateley holds over Nancy before his family can offer up the girl as a blood sacrifice. Sam Jaffe is fun to watch as a veteran satanist, while Talia Shire (still billed under her family name of Coppola) makes one of her earliest movie appearances. Daniel Haller's direction amply compensates for the occasional screenplay deficiencies.
