The Culling

IMDb
A terrifying supernatural thriller in which a group of college friends on a road trip find themselves fighting off dark forces at a remote farmhouse after a chance encounter with a strange little girl.

Story:

A group of friends, including three boys and two young blondes are travelling on a road. They stop at a restaurant to get some food and find a little girl, with a doll, weeping and claiming to have lost her way to home. They decide to delay their planned journey and help the girl reach to her parents. There drive takes them to a creepy house, far away from the main road. Emily (Elizabeth Di Prinzio), accompanies the little girl inside the building while others stay outside. Emily follows the girl to her room, which is full of different kind of dolls. The company decides to wait until her parents arrive. After a long wait, they arrive and offer the group to stay for a while. While the whole company is chatting, the conversation moves toward horror reality shows but none of them ever suspect that they have got into a trap where horror and mayhem has always been waiting for strangers.

Positive Points

Performance by all the characters is a positive side of the movie. Jeremy Sumpter and Elizabeth Di Prinzio are especially good with their characters. Johnathon Schaech has done well as a suspicious and jealous husband. The first half, keeps preparing the viewers for something sinister waiting to launch its killing spree. There is good use of ominous sounds to create an atmosphere of horror. There is suspense in the plot almost half way of the movie.

Negative Points

A lot of time is wasted for creating the environment for bad omens while the actual horror events occupy a relatively smaller part which exhausts the plot. A good thriller must have events studded within the plot, while auxiliary parts keep weaving the background. As this has not been intelligently done by Rustam Branaman, he story sucks and loses interest, giving impression that writer lacks originality and is trying to avoid ending up into a short movie. This makes The Culling an average one that may earn 5/10 points from me.
