Fear Island

I watched this movie and did not think it would be any good. It started with a girl in a hospital being held down by the Police. So I was intrigue wondering this might be something. The movie had its twists and turns. It is a good mystery
Review from Rotten Tomatoes
Five students on spring break meet at a secluded island cabin for aweekend getaway. After a night of music, drinking and getting re-acquainted the five friends are shocked to find the cabin's caretaker murdered and the only boat off the island gone. Stranded on the island they become the prey of a mysterious killer who seems bent on revenge for something the friends have done. They must defend themselves and find their tormentor or face death one by one.

Part 2 – In-Depth Spoiler Ridden Review/Synopsis
I really enjoyed the delivery of this movie.  We begin with the lone survivor of the island, Jenna (Haylie Duff), being found, and then interrogated by Detective Armory (Martin Cummings) and monitored by a psychiatrist, Dr. Jamie Chalice (Anne Marie DeLuise).  The cop believes Jenna only survived because she is the murderer, and the Dr. believes the opposite.  Jenna can’t remember what happened and slowly recounts the story as she remembers it.  So we alternate back and forth between what happened on the island and the scenes in the hospital/police station.
On the island, stupid stuff happens, they find a young girl, Megan (Lucy Hale) was a stowaway on their boat, they don’t care because she’s cute, they party, blah blah blah.  Then the dog disappears.  Oh no!  They look for it, can’t find it, because the islands caretaker, Keith (Jim Thorburn) took it.  He then gets killed.  And we never see the dog again.  We never hear what happened to the dog.  Big empty gaping plot hole that could have been easily fixed but just having the dog run outside or something at a later scene.  But whatever.
Next morning, dumb teens notice he’s dead, and then they do the normal “Let’s separate ourselves into stupid groups! And then further separate from our groups!”  So another girl dies.  She gets drowned in a boiling hot hot tub.  First off, you can clearly see her taking breaths with the loads of air room after the cover is put over it.  Then, I’ve never seen a hot tub with a mat for a top that you can’t move or push up, even if it’s locked down.  And no normal hot tub should get hot enough to instantly scald and burn you.  Whatever.  It was hilarious to watch though (yes, I’m sadistic, I guess).
At some point after this, some crazy person is shooting a nail gun into the house.  Randomly.  Whatever.  One guy gets hit.  Then later he disappears.  And they find him the next day (I think) buried alive.  It was boring and I zoned out.
Next guy dies in my favorite death ever.  He (for some reason) decides to look for the killer…. in thekitchen cabinets.  Not like a pantry, I mean the above the sink type cabinets where pots, pans, food items, etc. go.  So he opens one… and a full-grown rattlesnake lunges out and sinks its teeth into his chest.  It doesn’t just bite him, it’s completely stuck in his chest.  Best. Death. Ever.  This was the part where I started texting people about the hilarious scene they needed to go watch on netflix.  It was gold.
Then ok more stuff happens and we’re revealed the twist!  The two guys had sex with a girl last year, somehow she died (never clear whether they actually did it or she actually was drunk and hit her head).  Either way, they buried her.  Now Megan, the little stowaway, is revealed to be her sister and is seaking revenge.  She tries to kill Jenna, but Jenna kills her and that’s how she lived. Woo.  Anyone who didn’t see that twist coming deserves a nice slap in the face.
Now back at the police station, we’ve seen the cop and the psychiatrist slowly shift opinions.  The cop originally thinks Jenna is guilty, then at the end believes her.  The psychiatrist thinks she’s innocent, but sees major problems with Jenna’s story by the end.  At this point, you should have figured out the second twist.  Let me put it in actress names to make more sense – Haylie Duff, was telling the story AS Jenna… but it’s revealed that she is really Megan, the stowaway sister who did it all.  So yes, Megan was doing the killings, but Haylie Duff was the one doing it, not small brunette Lucy Hale.  Which, I’m fine with.  Except for one piece.  Haylie Duff looks like she could be a college student.  Lucy Hale LOOKS super young.  At one point, a guy tries to get with “Megan” on the island, as Lucy Hale.  He finds out she’s 15, and won’t.  That’s believable if it’s the Lucy Hale actress, but as the Haylie Duff character, no.  So she either made that up, or another plot hole.  But whatever, I’m over thinking it.  Haylie Duff did well in this role, I thought.
